Tongariro National Park is the home of the Tongariro crossing and has world Heritage status. World famous for it’s amazing natural landscapes, natural features and cultural importance.
The Tongariro Crossing walking track is 19.4km. The walk can be done in one day but walkers should always go prepared. Correct footware, food and plenty of water is a must. It is an amazing experience, over 100,000 people do the crossing each year. Shuttle’s can do pick up from accommodation or you can do a one way drop off (park car then get bus back to car park)

Motuoapa is a great place to base yourself for some great cycle trails. As well as the Officel Great Lake Cycle Trail there is an easy local trail along the Tongariro River, The Tongariro River Cycle Trail. A 15km trail that is ideal for families to get some fresh air and enjoy some fun mountain biking. Start and finish from a local reserve where there are public toilets and space for a picnic lunch. After your ride take a short drive to Tokaanu Hot Thermal Pools
